Some call them flying rats, but to us they are professional athletes.

The pigeons we’ll have in our game are rock pigeons. It’s the same kind of pigeons you’ll find in any city.

They’re between two and twelve years old and come from a licenced pigeonry in Huddinge outside of Stockholm. When they’re not starring in our pigeon bingo they are competing in long flying competitions, like mail pigeons.

To help us out with the the birds we’ll have Annika Lindh, who has been working with pigeons for several years. She’ll be with us throughout all the games (and in between) to make sure the birds feel comfortable. If any of the birds would seem to feel bad about being in the game, it gets to go home. And if any of them would get ill, we have a vet on stand by.

We don’t think pigeons would know what to do with money, so we’ll pay them with food instead. They’ll get a mix of vitamin and mineral enriched corn, peas and seeds. It’s their favourite. And they’ll get to each as much as the like.

Many of the birds have been in front of the camera several times, but unfortunately not all of them have names. So far. If you have any suggestion of a great bird name, feel free to share it with us using #PigeonBingo on Twitter.
